Description

A row of three houses, known as The Towers, was built in the late 19th century. The houses are constructed of coursed, rock-faced gritstone with slate roofs. Each house is two storeys high with basements and attics, and has three bays with a central entrance within a projecting bay.

No. 21, on the right, features a panelled front door with etched glass and an overlight, sheltered by a hood. The ground floor has three-light bay windows, while the first floor has two-light mullioned windows. Above the entrance is a sash window in an architrave, and there is a round-arched window in a tower. The tower is topped with a steeply pitched fish-scale slate roof and an ornate cast-iron finial. Corniced end stacks are also present.

Nos. 23 and 25 are similar in design. They both have panelled doors with hood mouldings supported by console brackets, and three-light bay windows, one of which is a canted bay. The first floor features an oriel window in the centre, and the attic has a round-arched window set within an ornate ogee gable topped with an urn finial. A large, tapering tower has slate-hung walls and round-arched windows, with elaborate cast-iron railings forming the cresting. A balustraded eaves parapet and terrace walls, including lions, complete the external features. The interiors have not been inspected.
