Description

Tanpit Cottage is a mid-17th century farmhouse, with 20th century additions and alterations. It is constructed of random red sandstone rubble, mostly painted, with a 20th century rendered concrete block extension and a 20th century tile roof. The house follows a 2-unit gable-entrance plan, with two storeys, a rear extension, a single-storey porch, and an outshut to the right. The central porch has a cyma-moulded door surround, a shaped lintel, a coped gable with kneelers and small obelisks, and a 2-light casement window above. The right-hand outshut features a 3-light chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould, quoins, a coped verge with kneelers, finials, and a 3-light flat-faced mullion window. Four windows to the left are 2-light casements with stone lintels. Inside, the ceiling beams are ovolo-moulded.
