Description
Tollgate Cottage is a late 18th-century toll house that has been converted into a residential home. It is constructed from roughly dressed stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building consists of two bays and is one room deep, with a 19th-century addition on the right side and large 20th-century extensions at the rear, standing two storeys high throughout.
The cottage has a projecting plinth and stone quoins. There are two windows on each floor, with square-cut surrounds; only one window retains its original sash, while the other is blocked. The 19th-century addition includes two door openings and two casement windows. The left gable is canted and has one window on the ground floor and two on the first floor, all with square-cut surrounds. The door features a stone lintel and a rusticated surround, along with a stone band at the eaves level. The rear of the building is obscured by the extensions.
