Description

Holly Cottage and No. 5 is a house and adjoining cottage dating from the early 18th century, with a datestone marking the year 1715. A bay was added to the left side in the late 18th century, and there were further additions to the rear in the late 19th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof.

The structure consists of a two-bay, two-storey house with the left bay added later, and the entire range has been made double-depth at a later date. The original house displays quoins and a central door with a dressed surround, along with a 20th-century porch. The ground floor has enlarged windows beneath original hoodmoulds, while the first floor features three and four-light double-chamfered mullion windows on either side of the re-cut datestone.

No. 5, located on the left, has a square-cut door surround and 20th-century casement windows on each floor, which replaced the original flat-faced mullion windows. The building is topped with three rendered chimney stacks that were originally on the ridge but now slope with the roof. Additionally, there is a three-light double-chamfered mullion window on the right gable end.
