Description
The barn north of Rough Bank Farmhouse is a Grade II listed structure dating from the 18th century, with elements of an earlier 17th-century timber-framed building. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The barn consists of four structural bays and has opposed cart entries in the second bay, with outshut shippons that were previously aisles flanking the front. The building has quoins and plain door openings leading to the shippons, including a 19th-century door on the right side with a square-cut surround. At the rear, there is a round-headed cart entry. Inside, the roof is supported by two collar and tie-beam trusses and one tie-beam truss with inclined struts. The aisle plate and one aisle post remain on the front side, where the tie beams are diagonally braced to the walls, which were formerly posts. The other ends of the trusses are supported on brick corbels. Note that the outbuilding adjoining the north of the barn is not included in this listing.
