Description
Top o' th' Hill Cottages are a pair of houses that date from the late 17th century to early 18th century. They are built from hammer-dressed stone and have a slate roof. The building features two bays and stands two storeys high. The central door, which is now blocked, has a chamfered dressed surround. To the left, there is a later door that replaces a former window, while another later door to the right has a square-cut surround.
On the ground floor, there is a three-light double-chamfered mullion window, although the mullions have been removed, and it features a hoodmould. The first floor has two three-light recessed flat-faced mullion windows, which were added in the 18th century when the eaves were raised. The left side of the building has a seven-light double-chamfered mullion window (with two mullions missing) and a two-light window (with one mullion missing), as well as a later window on the first floor. At the rear, there are two two-light windows and additional later inserted windows from the 18th century.
