Description

Nos. 844 and 846 on Wilmslow Road are a pair of cottages that have been converted into a restaurant. They date from the late 18th century and have been altered over time. The buildings are constructed of white-painted brick and feature a graduated slate roof. They have a double-depth plan, with a diagonal junction at the left end connecting to Ye Olde Cock Inn, and include back extensions.

The cottages are two storeys high and have a total of four windows on the front, with three windows on No. 844 and one blind window above the doorway of No. 846. No. 846 has a symmetrical shop front at the ground floor, with a doorway flanked by large square windows that contain three round-arched lights. These windows are supported by pilasters and topped with a continuous fascia and cornice. Above the door, there is a blind window, and the ground floor features two 2-light casements that mimic horizontal-sliding sashes, complete with glazing bars and flanked by pseudo-shutters. No. 844 has a square 4-pane sashed window, a doorway to the left, and a first-floor window that matches those of No. 846. The ridge chimney is located on No. 846, while No. 844 has a gable chimney. The rear and interior of the buildings were not inspected.
