Description
Christ Church, built in 1888 by Lawrence Booth, is a Grade II* Gothic Revival church located at right angles to the road and sloping away from it. The structure features a stone chancel, a large nave, passage aisles, and two-bay, double-glazed transepts. Above the south-east transept rises a tower with paved open windows in the top stage and a recessed spire. Inside, the church has plain granite piers with shaft-rings. It was funded by Rev J G Haworth and Miss Nancy Haworth, members of a cotton spinning and fustian making family, and is known as the "Jesse Haworth Memorial Church," which is prominently displayed in relief lettering on the west front, contributing to its landmark value.
