Description

This is a milestone located on Liverpool Road in Great Sankey, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is made of whitewashed stone and features a triangular shape with a flat top. The milestone has an OS benchmark symbol and incised black lettering that reads 'TO PRESCOT 8 MILES, TO LIVERPOOL 16 MILES' on the left side and 'TO WARRINGTON 2 MILES' on the right side. The milestone is marked on the 1849 Ordnance Survey map, indicating its historical significance as a reminder of the area's transport history and changing road patterns.
