Description
Brook Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered over time. It is likely constructed mainly of oak small-framing but is entirely rendered on the outside and mostly plastered on the inside. The roof is thatched but covered with corrugated asbestos. The building has one and a half storeys and features three rooms in the main wing, with a lower wing that projects forward on the left side. The original four-panel door has been replaced, as have the windows on the lower storey at the front. The upper storey has small-pane casements that are flanked by weatherboarding, and there are flush brick chimneys on each gable end as well as a ridge chimney between the central and left rooms. At the back, there is a long one-storey brick outshut with a slate catslide roof, likely added in the late 19th century. Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered oak beams and an altered inglenook with an oak bressumer. Some of the oak small-framing is visible in the rear wall, and the roof structure includes oak purlins and V-strut trusses, along with diagonally-set ridge pieces. The upstairs chimney features a fire-hood made of wattle and daub.
