Description
The memorial stands outside a Sunday school, dated 1846. It is constructed of stone and sits on a stepped, battered pedestal. Above the pedestal is a cornice with acroteria, followed by a plain block with a steep, chamfered top. Crowning the block is a draped urn. An inscription on the pedestal commemorates John Whitaker, the founder of the Sunday school, and records that the memorial was erected by voluntary contributions on the 50th anniversary of the school's establishment, 6th May 1846. A low relief bust is carved on the upper block.
