Description
Macclesfield Sunday School, also known as Macclesfield Heritage Centre, is a former Sunday school building located on Roe Street. It was constructed in 1813 and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is made of brick and features a slate roof. It stands four storeys high and has a ten-window range, with an additional three-storeyed window range to the right. The central four bays are slightly advanced, and there are entrances in the second and ninth bays, each featuring panelled doors with a radial fanlight set in a Doric case. There is also an additional door in the right-hand bay. The central section includes four round-arched windows that are connected by a continuous string course to the ground floor. The remaining windows are 30-pane sashes with flat-arched brick heads and stone sills throughout. A moulded stone cornice with a raised section at the centre is inscribed with 'Sunday School. Erected by Voluntary Contributions AD 1813'.
