Description

The building is a former British school, now functioning as a Sunday school, constructed in 1843 and altered and rebuilt in 1890, as noted on a plaque. It is made of red brick with gault brick dressings and features a slate roof.

The exterior is a single-storey, symmetrical six-bay range that stands gable-end to the street, with a central pier. The side elevation facing the yard has an entrance to the left of the center, featuring a door beneath a fanlight with lozenge-pattern cast-iron glazing, which is a common feature for all windows. There is a central projecting pier with a gablet that bears the date plaque. The building has projecting gabled window bays with three-light cross windows, rectangular slit windows to the right of the center and in the end bays, and end angle pilasters. All windows have quoined brick surrounds and splayed stone sills, with stone or concrete lintels and terracotta copings on the gables.

On the front elevation, there are double-leaf half-glazed doors set in a wide recessed surround, along with four cross windows—two above the entrance—and a louvred lancet window in the gable, as well as a truncated stack above. The rear features three large two-light cross casements and a three-light arched window in the gable. The interior has not been inspected. The building is located next to the Congregational Church, which is now the United Reformed Church.
