Description

MACCLESFIELD

SJ9173SE MILL STREET 886-1/12/147 (East side) 17/03/77 No.96

GV II

Former dwelling, now shop. Original building probably late C16, refronted early C20. Timber-framed, with mock-timber facade and Welsh slate roof. Low 2 storeys, wide 3-window range. Ornate mock timbering in small panels. Inserted shop windows each side of central doorway with smaller 2-light flanking windows. Upper windows are latticed 2-light casements, the outer windows set beneath dormer gables. INTERIOR: much of the original timber-framed structure remains visible inside, the tie beams of the principal trusses apparently cut through, presumably when the roof structure was altered during early C20 remodelling.
