Description
31 and 33 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It likely dates from the 16th century but has undergone significant alterations, including a refronting in the early 19th century and further changes in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame, with 19th-century work in painted brick arranged in Flemish bond. It has a steeply-pitched roof covered with Welsh slate and brick dentilled eaves, and there are no visible stacks.
The exterior is two stories high with a three-window range and a rear wing that is set at right angles. The main range has 8/8 sash windows. On the ground floor, there are 20th-century plate glass shop windows in the outer bays, with a central door on the left. In the center, there is a 20th-century doorway that leads to a passage between the two properties, featuring remains of a gauged brick flat arch above. The rear wing retains a timber-framed gable and an old tiled roof.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have square-panelled timber framing, one post, exposed joists, and beams, some of which are chamfered.
