Description
No. 36 High Street, formerly known as The Quiet Woman, is an early 19th-century former inn that has been converted into shops and offices. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh-slate roof with painted brick dogtooth eaves. It has brick stacks at the left end and the center of the ridge, with the right-hand gable verge raised.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range with a rear wing. On the first floor, there are tripartite windows with 2/2:6/6:2/2 sashes, which are adorned with painted channelled voussoirs, keystones, and sills. The ground floor features two canted bay windows, each with 4/1-pane fixed glazing and vestigial enriched leaded cornices. The central entrance is round-arched and has a rendered architrave with imposts and a keystone, along with a fanlight that has radial glazing bars and a six-panel door, which was formerly two leaves. The building has a rendered plinth.
It is important to note that the 20th-century brick frontage of No. 38, located to the right, extends into No. 36 at ground-floor level. The interior has not been inspected.
