Description
No. 19 High Street is a house that has been converted into shops and offices. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a renewed plain tile roof that is hipped to the right. The roof has a moulded eaves cornice and two lateral brick stacks on the right side.
The building has three storeys and five bays, with the left bay being recessed and only two storeys high, which is part of a rear wing. On the first floor of the right-hand section, there are four 6/6 boxed sash windows that have painted channelled voussoirs, keystones, and a sill-band. Above these, there are similar 3/6 sash windows. On the ground floor, there is a canted bay window on the right that has a pitched leaded roof and 6/1 sashes, along with a decorative frieze and a deep sill. This bay window is flanked by a vestigial sill-band. To the left, there is a 20th-century plate glass shopfront with a deep fascia. The central entrance features a Classical architrave with three-quarter Doric columns, a frieze with paterae, an open pediment, a panelled reveal, an enriched fanlight, and two stone steps. The building also has painted plinth courses.
The left-hand bay includes a round-arched carriage entrance with rusticated painted stone quoins, voussoirs, a keystone, and a decorative tympanum, along with a blocked window above that has a similar surround. At the rear, the right wing connects with the wing of No. 21 and the Old Wool Barn to form a courtyard. The interior has not been inspected.
