Description
The Monument is a memorial located in Dronfield, dated 1846. It is constructed from ashlar gritstone and stands on a stepped base, with a square plan. The structure features four double chamfered archways, which are supported by buttressed corner piers that are stepped and have set-offs. Above the arches, there are ashlar panels that are pierced by quatrefoils. At the top, there is a squat octagonal ashlar spire that rises from a corbel table adorned with animal heads. The spire includes miniature lucarnes and is topped with a cross finial. A plaque on the monument commemorates its erection in honor of the repeal of the corn laws, dated June 26th, 1846. It is noted that the monument is situated on the site of the former town cross.
