Description
The Former Dronfield Methodist Church is a Non-Conformist Church built in 1863. It is constructed from coursed squared coal measures sandstone and features coped gables, moulded kneelers, and a Welsh slated roof. The building has two storeys above a basement and consists of five bays. The north front is pedimented, with a central doorway that is accessed by a flight of stone steps and surrounded by cast iron railings with a handrail. The doorway is semi-circular arched and includes a radiating fanlight and double doors, each with four panels. On either side of the doorway are tall semi-circular arched windows with glazing bar sashes, arranged in a 4 x 4 pane configuration. A plain band course runs along the heads of the windows, and there is an inscribed plaque in the gable apex that reads 'UNITED METHODIST FREE CHURCH 1863'. The side wall windows are within plain openings and consist of two lights with gothic arched heads. At the south end, there is a single bay that rises to two storeys. The interior has not been inspected. The church is included in the listing for its group value only.
