Description
The Hall, located at No 19 on High Street in Dronfield, is a house dating from the early 18th century, with 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from coursed coal measures sandstone with ashlar dressings, featuring rusticated quoins and a moulded cornice below a plain pierced parapet. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has ashlar ridge and gable stacks.
The south elevation presents a symmetrical five-bay façade over two storeys and attics. The central doorway is topped by a segmental pediment and has a moulded stone surround, with a six-panelled door that has four upper panels now glazed. The windows are 2-light flush mullioned with transoms, and the heads of the ground and first-floor openings are connected by continuous flat bands. To the east, there is a lower two-storey 19th-century range that features a massive surround to its doorway.
Inside, the entrance hall is panelled, and there is a fine 18th-century staircase with twisted balusters. The rear ground and first-floor rooms have bolection moulded 18th-century panelling and good chimneypieces. Additionally, there is a secondary staircase with splat balusters.
