Description
Grove Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century. It features a rendered timber frame with corrugated metal sheeting covering a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic, consisting of two bays and a shippon to the west under the same roof. While the timbers are painted on the rendering, the walls are made of genuine timbers with wattle and daub. The ground floor has modern metal casements that have replaced the original leaded lights, but an original gudgeon-hung leaded light remains in the gabled dormer with a barge board at the first floor level. The cottage has a ledged and battened door and a single old stack. At the rear, there is a later brick lean-to. Inside, timbers are visible in the walls of both the cottage and the shippon, featuring bevelled beams and exposed ceiling joists. There are wide-boarded doors on old strap hinges, an old narrow staircase with winders, and old purlins and cleft thatch rafters.
