Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations. It features a combination of whitened stone and brick, topped with a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and consists of two bays. It has flush casements with glazing bars and a boarded door set in a large square frame. The east gable-end has two corner posts and an exposed tie beam. Attic windows are located in the gables, and there is a small window near the chimney on the east gable-end. The west gable and the rear (north) walls are made of stone, while the other walls are brick.
Inside, the cottage has two rooms on both the ground floor and the attic, with timbers in the cross wall. The ceilings are low, featuring chamfered beams and exposed ceiling joists in both ground floor rooms. The doors are boarded and hung on strap hinges and old tee hinges. The staircase consists entirely of very narrow winders. In the attic, some timbers are exposed, along with purlins and cleft thatch rafters.
