Description

This is a canal milestone from 1819, made of cast iron. It has a tapered circular stem that is inscribed with "R & D STONE 1819." The curved plates on the milestone are inscribed with "SHARDLOW 71 MILES" and "PRESTON BROOK 21 MILES." It features a domed cap, and all the lettering is in Roman capitals.
