Description
The Trent and Mersey Canal Bridge Number 157 is a canal accommodation bridge built in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from brindled brick with stone coping and features a single span with a humped back and an elliptical arch. The bridge has swept wings that end in piers at all four corners. On both sides, there is a stone plaque at the crown, and remnants of a cast iron guard plate on a wooden post can be found on the west towpath side jamb. The Trent and Mersey Canal itself was constructed between 1766 and 1777 by engineers James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
