Description

The Canal Milepost east of Wheelock Wharf is a cast-iron milepost dating from 1819. It features a dome-shaped top and measures 150 millimeters in diameter and 1 meter in height. The post supports a curved distance indicator that is divided into two panels. These panels display raised black capital letters on a white background, indicating "Shardlow 69 miles" to the east and "Preston Brook 23 miles" to the west. The panels are bordered with a beaded edging. Near the base of the post, there is a quatrefoil panel inscribed with "R & N Stone" and the date below.
