The Farmhouse, Lower Folds

The Farmhouse at Lower Folds is a farmhouse dated 1704, now functioning as a house. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a slate roof, which has a chimney at the right gable and another at the left front corner. The main entrance is located in the original rear (east) wall. The building has a three-bay end-baffle-entry plan, with a front outshut extending from the first bay.

It stands two storeys tall and has a continuous dripcourse along the front wall. The doorway on the right has a large lintel inscribed with the letter H. To the left of this doorway, the dripcourse steps over a long recessed window that has two chamfered mullions in the center light and square lights on either side. There are square windows in each wall at the angle with the outshut, and coupled square windows in the front wall. On the first floor, there is a round-headed light above the door, a four-light window in the second bay (which is missing two mullions), and two smaller windows at the angle.

The rear of the building features a doorway with a hoodmould at the right end (first bay), and at ground floor, there are two widely separated recessed windows with hoodmoulds, one with two lights (missing a mullion) and the other with three lights (also missing one mullion). The first floor has five modern casements. The interior has been altered.
