Description
Walmsley Unitarian Chapel is a chapel built in 1713, with 19th-century additions. It features water-shot masonry and a stone slate roof, along with dressed stone additions. The building is rectangular and includes a 19th-century narthex with a lean-to roof and a rear wing. The narthex has a central gable and two single-chamfered-mullioned windows with two lights each, as well as a central window with three stepped lights above the entrance. This entrance has splayed reveals with rounded angles and a label mould. The gable is stone-coped with kneelers, a datestone, and a small bell turret that has round-headed stone-louvred openings, a corbelled cornice, and a cap with a ball finial. The returns of the building have three bays with three-light double-chamfered-mullioned windows on two levels. The rear features a round-headed window with three round-headed lights and 19th-century ornamental stained glass. The wing has a large stack. Inside, there is a gallery supported by slender columns around three sides, featuring fielded panels. The central area has open seating, while closed pews are located on the sides. The pulpit is situated against the rear wall.
