Description
This building is a cart shed, byre, milking parlour, and privy/coalhouse located 10 meters southeast of Claphow Farmhouse. It dates from the early 19th century, with the privy/coalhouse added in the mid to late 19th century. The structure is made of dressed sandstone and features hipped clay pantile roofs with stone ridge copings. It has an L-shaped plan, with the privy/coalhouse attached to the west angle of the byre. The north-west side of the byre and cart shed has boarded stable doors, while the south-east face of the cart shed has segment-arched openings. There are later outbuildings connected to the south-east side of the cart shed and the south-east and south-west sides of the milking parlour, but these are not of interest. At the time of the survey, the buildings were largely disused. They are included for their group value.
