Description
This is a milepost, likely from the early 20th century, made by Smith Paterson Ltd. of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and painted in white and black. The milepost features a shield-shaped plaque that displays the distances to Cornhill (32 miles) and Morpeth (12 miles), set on a circular shaft. Below this, there is a lower rectangular plaque indicating Wooler (19 miles) and a maker's plate underneath. The overall height of the milepost is 0.7 metres.
