Description

This is a milepost, likely from the early 20th century, made by Smith Paterson Ltd. of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and is painted white and black. The milepost features a shield-shaped plaque displaying the distances to Cornhill (35 miles) and Morpeth (9 miles), which is set on a circular shaft. Additionally, there is a lower rectangular plaque indicating Wooler (22 miles) and a maker's plate below. The overall height of the milepost is 0.9 metres.
