Description

The Anglers Arms is an inn dating from the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century wing added to the southwest. The building is constructed of brick, primarily in stretcher bond, with stone dressings, except for the stone rear outshut. It is rendered and colour-washed except at the rear, and has a Welsh slate roof.

The main block has three storeys and features two bays plus one bay and then two bays. It has a plinth, a first-floor band, and a second-floor sill band. The central doorway, along with a window to the right, is now within a porch. The second-floor windows are located only in the centre and end bays, and all windows are 4-pane sashes set in raised surrounds. The gable copings are raised and tumbled-in, and the end stacks have been rebuilt with a banded design. Additional bands, including one at the eaves level, continue across the right return.

The projecting wing on the left has similar window arrangements and features a three-window, two-storey end bow with a castellated parapet and a hipped roof behind. There is a renewed doorway on the right return and a 9-pane sash stair window with an intersecting head under a round arch on the left return.

The interior has been altered, and there is an attached railway carriage to the west, known as 'The Pullman Dining Car', which is not of special interest.
