Description

The Blagdon Arms is an inn dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, consisting of two sections with later 19th-century alterations. The building features a tooled-and-margined stone front with cut dressings and rubble returns, topped with Welsh slate roofs that have red tile cresting on the left section.

The south elevation is divided into two parts. The left section is two storeys with attics and has four bays. There is a renewed door between the right bays, and a former doorway that has been converted into a window in the second bay, which is topped with a corbelled later 19th-century stop-chamfered hood and a moulded cornice. The windows are plate-glass sashes with slightly projecting sills. The eaves cornice is chamfered, and the gables are coped with moulded kneelers. There are three gabled roof dormers featuring plate-glass sashes and moulded finials on paired brackets. The building has banded end and ridge stacks.

The right section is two storeys and has two wider bays, displaying plate-glass sashes set in alternating-block surrounds. It features moulded brackets at the eaves, a coped right end gable, and a stepped-and-banded end stack. The left return shows a four-pane attic sash and quoining from the 18th-century house, which has been extended to the rear in the 19th century.

Inside, there are two original fireplaces, one of which has an old range, located back-to-back in the eastern part of the building.
