Description
The Delaval Arms is an inn dating from the mid-18th century, with mid-19th century rear wings and an early 20th century extension. It is constructed of squared stone with cut dressings and has a grey slate roof. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring five narrow bays. The central entrance is a half-glazed door set in a shouldered raised stone surround topped with a pediment. The ground floor has 20th century casement windows, while the upper floor features plate-glass sashes, all within moulded stone surrounds with slightly projecting sills. A central pedimented dormer from around 1900 has paired sashes, and it is flanked by flat-topped roof dormers with similar glazing. The ends of the building have stepped and banded stacks, and the returns display stepped gables with a raised pedimented centre above a band, as well as small stone-surround windows. To the left, there is a curved single-storey flat-roofed extension. The rear elevation shows gabled wings that flank an earlier stair projection.
