Description
This is a milepost located beside a cottage by the drive to Whemleyburn, likely dating from the early 20th century and made by Smith Paterson Ltd. of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and painted white and black. The milepost features a shield-shaped plaque displaying the distances to Cornhill (38 miles) and Morpeth (6 miles), set on a circular shaft. Below this, there is a lower rectangular plaque indicating Wooler (25 miles) and a maker's plate underneath. The overall height of the milepost is 0.9 metres.
