Description
The Former Schoolmaster's House and Old Schoolroom is a building that dates back to 1751, with a refronting that occurred around 1850. The schoolroom is from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been altered over time. The house features rock-faced masonry at the front and squared stone at the rear and in the schoolroom, topped with slate roofs.
The house is two storeys high and has three bays, presenting a symmetrical facade. It has a central door that has been renewed, set under a triangular head with sunk spandrels. The windows are two-light mullioned types with casements, framed in chamfered surrounds, and the ground floor windows have labels above them. The right gable is coped and has kneelers, with stacks at both the right end and the ridge.
The Old Schoolroom, located to the right, is a single storey with two bays. It has a central boarded door with a two-pane overlight and late 19th-century sash windows. The right side features a round-headed window, and the reverse stepped gable is topped with a small bellcote that has a segment-headed arch. The rear elevation has been altered. To the left of the house is the former school, which is now a parish church.
