Description

The Church of St Thomas of Canterbury is a Roman Catholic church built in 1841. It features a west end made of squared stone, while the rest of the structure is constructed from coursed rubble, topped with a slate roof. The church has a cruciform shape, with lateral sacristies instead of traditional transepts, and a southeast porch.

Architecturally, it is designed in the Lancet Gothic style. The west end includes an old door with a raised design of intersecting panels set under a pointed arch with a hollow-chamfered hood. Above this door are three stepped lancets, each with linked hoodmoulds, and the gable is open-pedimented with a finial cross. The side walls are supported by stepped buttresses and feature additional lancets. The porch contains a 10-panel door under a pointed arch. Each sacristy has a door with a shouldered head and paired lancets to the west, while the east side has a triplet of lancets.

The church is also listed for its historical connections with Horsley Tower.
