Description
The Church of St Helen is a former school that has been converted into a parish church. It is built of squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The building has a 'T' plan and is a single storey.
On the south elevation, the left section has a two-bay design with a boarded door set under a four-centred arch and an outshut. The projecting right bay contains a three-light mullion-and-transom window with a hoodmould, flanked by smaller inserted windows, all beneath a coped gable with kneelers. The left section features a projecting porch from 1783, which was relocated from the old parish church in 1982. This porch has a pointed arch with a hollow-chamfered hood and is flanked by small diagonal buttresses. The gable behind the porch is coped with moulded kneelers and a ball finial. To the right, the end of the outshut has a six-pane casement window set in a re-set 16th or 17th-century chamfered stone surround.
