Description

The Church of St Peter is a church built in 1776, with alterations made in 1872. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a graduated stone slate roof. The church has a nave with a south porch and a chancel bay. The ashlar plinth supports the structure. The nave is divided into three bays, and the south porch, added in 1872, has a gabled roof with a pointed-arched chamfered doorway, diagonal buttresses, stone coping, and a gable cross. There are two 1872 two-light pointed-arched chamfered windows with hoodmoulds in a Decorated style, along with a continuous sill band.

On the north side, the outer bays contain original blind round-arched windows with brick voussoirs and keystones, while the central window is similar to those on the south side but set within an 18th-century opening. The west end has a similar window, and there is an eaves band and stone coping. A gabled bellcote from 1872 features two pointed-arched openings and a round opening in the gable, topped with a gable cross.

The chancel has a large canted bay and a sill band, with a three-light pointed east window from 1872 that includes geometric tracery and a hoodmould. Flanking this window are blind round-arched windows from 1776, also with brick voussoirs and keystones. The roof is hipped and topped with a weather-vane. The porch and eastern window interrupt blocked 18th-century round-arched windows made of gauged brick with stone keyblocks.

Inside, there is a full set of 17th-century oak panelled benches, each with two knob finials at the ends.
