Description
The Church of St Mary is an Anglican church built in 1723 and restored in 1900. It features coursed rubblestone on a dressed stone plinth, with an ashlar-faced west end that has chamfered alternating quoins. The roof is slightly swept with tiles, while the north transept roof is covered in slate. The west end includes a 19th-century gabled porch adorned with decorative timber work and a barge board, flanked by plain 2-light cusped lancet windows with two keyed oculi above. At the top of the west gable, there is a bell-tower that is tile hung, featuring a hipped tile roof, a weathervane, and one or two-light louvred belfry openings on each side. The nave and chancel consist of three bays, also with plain 2-light cusped lancets, and the east gable is coped with a cross finial. Inside, the church has a compartmented tunnel vault with seven bays, an arcaded west bay, and an additional carved tester over the chancel bays. The late 19th-century pews are designed with twin quatrefoil panels, and there is a carved wooden altar with a painted Decalogue behind it. The north transept features a large flattened stone arch and a flat compartmented ceiling.
