Description

The gate piers, gates, and paddock walls located to the north of The Vicarage were constructed in 1876, incorporating early 18th century gate piers. The walls are made of snecked stone with cut dressings, while the piers are made of cut stone and the gates are wrought iron. The rectangular paddock features walls approximately 1.5 meters high with gabled coping. The gateway on the east side has rusticated piers topped with flat-moulded caps. Smaller, similar piers flank the main gate near the north-east corner of the paddock and support double gates featuring "S C" (St. Cuthbert) in decorative ironwork. There is also a pedestrian gate located between the west pier and the paddock wall. A 20th century bus shelter at the west end of the north wall is not of interest. This structure is included for its group value with The Vicarage and St. Cuthbert's Church.
