Description

The garden wall, gate piers, gates, and railings located to the south of The Vicarage were built in 1700 and 1860. The structure features coursed limestone rubble walls and ashlar piers topped with wrought-iron gates and railings. The wall is approximately 1.5 meters high and extends south from the south-west corner of The Vicarage for about 100 meters before turning eastward. This section includes a plinth for approximately 150 meters, leading to gates on North Street, which are flanked by gate piers with moulded cornices and swept, domed caps. Access to The Vicarage from the north-east is via a flight of steps from Church Path, which are bordered by similar gate piers. The left pier is connected to a substantial coped coursed rubblestone wall that rises with the steps and connects to No. 2 Court Barton. The railings that top the wall and enclose the garden feature a low square-section alternate loop-and-rail design, with those on the wall set into a hedge. The double gates are of a similar design.
