Description
The Dock Public House is a public house built in 1837. It is constructed from tooled squared stone of near-ashlar quality and has a Welsh slate roof with brick stacks that have been rebuilt on older brick bases. The building is two storeys high and features five slightly irregular bays. It has a plinth and a pilaster at the left end with a moulded band and capital. Above the ground-floor openings, there is a wooden fascia board, and a moulded stone band runs along the first-floor sills. The eaves cornice adds to the architectural detail.
The entrance consists of panelled double doors located at the left end and in the fourth bay, the latter of which has a two-pane overlight and a narrow two-pane sash window immediately to the right. There are one 12-pane and two 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor, along with traces of blocked openings. The first floor features 8-pane sashes. The left gable is coped, and there are stacks at the ridge and right end.
This public house is part of the original planned development that coincided with the construction of the harbour, built by the contractors Sandersons.
