GV II

Boundary wall with 3 gateways, gates and railings. c1845. Coursed squared gritstone wall, stone piers, wrought-iron and wooden gates. Walling overall length approx 55m: 45m to road front and 10m on right return to link with former vicarage outbuildings; rounded coping stones, approx 1m high fronting the church and surmounted by railing with plain bars, probably not original, and 2m high fronting the former vicarage grounds. Gateways: left, to church: plain base, shaft and capstones, shaped but obviously not finished (see Church of St Saviour, qv), plain bars and dog bars to gates; centre, to vicarage: finely-carved moulded chamfered surround to cambered arch surmounted by stepped copings with incised cross, beaded boards to gate; right, vicarage service entrance: jambs and lintel of single blocks with narrow chamfer, plank gate with strap hinges. Included for group value.
