Description
The boundary wall with gate piers, gates, and a gateway to the north of the Church of St Saviour was built around 1845. It features a coursed squared gritstone wall with stone piers and wrought-iron and wooden gates. The overall length of the wall is approximately 55 meters, with 45 meters facing the road and 10 meters on the right return connecting to the former vicarage outbuildings. The wall has rounded coping stones and stands about 1 meter high in front of the church, topped with railings that likely are not original. In front of the former vicarage grounds, the wall is about 2 meters high.
There are three gateways: the left one leads to the church and has a plain base, shaft, and capstones that are shaped but appear unfinished, along with plain bars and dog bars on the gates. The central gateway leads to the vicarage and features a finely-carved moulded chamfered surround with a cambered arch, topped with stepped copings and an incised cross, and has beaded boards on the gate. The right gateway serves as a service entrance for the vicarage, with jambs and a lintel made from single blocks with a narrow chamfer, and a plank gate with strap hinges. This structure is included for its group value.
