Description
This former school, later used as light industrial premises and now converted into apartments, was built between 1839 and 1840. It was designed by RD Chantrell for Dean Hook, the vicar of Leeds. The building is constructed of coursed stone with a steeply-pitched slate roof, coped gables, and small octagonal domed turrets at the corners, with a small central gable flanked by turrets. A gable chimney is located to the right. The property has two storeys and eleven bays by two. A four-centred arched doorway is centrally positioned within a slightly projecting bay, above which is a large recessed panel and stepped window, with a round panel to the gable above the upper floor. The doorway has a chamfered pointed archway with an overlight to the right. The ground floor features wood mullion and transom nine-pane windows in chamfered reveals, a sill band, and stepped hoodmoulds. The first-floor windows are square and also have a sill band. The interior was not inspected.
