Description
The Corsenside Parish War Memorial is a polished granite structure located in an enclosure on the west side of the A68, approximately 40 meters southeast of High Park House. The memorial is designed in the shape of an obelisk, which is square in plan and features a pyramidal top that rises from the corniced cap of a tapering pedestal. The base of the pedestal sits on a square sandstone step.
On the front face of the pedestal, there is a principal dedicatory inscription that reads: "THE WORLD WAR/ 1914 – 1919/ ERECTED BY/ THE PARISH OF CORSENSIDE/ TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY/ OF/ (NAMES)." The names of the fallen are listed along with their place of burial and date of death. The southern face of the pedestal includes the names of those who served in the Second World War, recorded in a similar manner.
The memorial is enclosed by low stone walls, which are punctuated by two corner piers at the front wall. This front wall features a narrow rake of stone steps that leads to a short path, providing access to the memorial.
