Description
The Leasingthorne War Memorial is a stone structure located opposite Eden Terrace in an area of open ground, previously in front of the Leasingthorne Social Centre. The memorial is designed as an obelisk with a square base, rising from a corniced pedestal that sits on a two-stepped base. It is enclosed by a square railing set on a low kerb.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the pedestal states: "ERECTED IN UNDYING MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918. 'UNTIL THE DAY DAWN'" and below it, on the riser of the upper step, it adds "AND THE WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945." The names of those commemorated are inscribed on the other faces of the pedestal.
