Description

The Pulford War Memorial, erected in the aftermath of the First World War, stands on a small site in front of the village hall, enclosed by railings and a hedge. It is a pink polished granite obelisk, featuring a carved wreath and bow on its front face. The obelisk is raised on a pedimented cornice, with a low relief sculpture of a crossed sword and rifle on its front-facing pediment.

Below the cornice is a tapering plinth, bearing the principal dedication incised in the granite and gilded: "ERECTED BY / THE PARISHIONERS, / IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES / DURING THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918. / “THEY DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE.”

The plinth rests on two granite steps. Eight names of those who died in the First World War are arranged alphabetically on the upper step's riser. Below this, a further six names are recorded, followed by the dates 1939 – 1945 and the name of one man. The entire memorial is set upon a rectangular, two-stepped base of red sandstone.
