Description

This is a pair of cottages built in 1867 for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster. They are constructed from brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, set upon a sandstone plinth, with grey slate gabled roofs. A square chimney made of brick is centrally located. Each cottage is one window wide and two storeys high, with a gable positioned near the centre of the front elevation. The windows are fitted with cast iron lattice casements, and the framed and boarded doors are protected by label-moulded sandstone lintels. The architectural style is a simplified interpretation of Jacobean design. A single-storey outbuilding is attached to the rear of the cottages; while its structure is largely unaltered, the roof has been replaced with corrugated asbestos.
