Description
This is a milepost located 700 metres south-east of the junction with New Lane, dating from the late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and painted white, featuring raised sans-serif letters painted black. The milepost has a triangular shape with a sloping top and a semicircular back plate. The back plate displays "DURHAM COUNTY." On the north-east face, it indicates "STAINDROP 6" with a hand pointing to the west, while the north-west face shows "DARLINGTON 5" with a hand pointing to the east.
