Description

This is a milepost located 600 metres west of Thornton Hall, dating from the late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and painted white, featuring raised letters painted black. The milepost has a triangular shape with a sloping top and a semicircular back plate. The back plate displays "DURHAM COUNTY." On the left side, there is a pointing hand indicating "STAINDROP 7 MILES," and on the right side, another pointing hand shows "DARLINGTON 4 MILES."
